Digital Braces Sydney At The Home Of Digital Dentistry

When considering orthodontic braces, Sydney patients have a wide variety of options open to them. They can, of course, go down the traditional route of metal style orthodontic treatment, or alternatively, they might opt for the latest in digital invisible orthodontics. Here at Digital Dental Surgery Sydney, we invest in the very best technology to ensure the highest levels of patient care are met. This is why we’re proud to offer invisible aligners including Invisalign and Clear Correct.

Unlike most traditional bracket and wire style braces, which are fixed into position for the duration of your orthodontic treatment. Invisalign and Clear Correct incorporate a series of clear, removable, plastic aligners which are worn over the teeth. While they differ from conventional braces in terms of look, comfort and fit, the process of getting them that is entirely different too.

So what does getting Invisalign aligners or Clear Correct aligners entail?

With any type of bracket and wire style orthodontics, Sydney patients will usually experience the same process. X-rays are taken along with alginate moulds of the teeth so that any braces can be correctly designed. Once your braces have been designed, then you’ll attend an appointment to attach them to the teeth.

With Invisible aligners, however, things are done digitally. Once we’ve confirmed you’re eligible for this type of orthodontic treatment we’ll then take a series of photos, X-rays and/or digital scans. We can even take digital impressions of your teeth, so no more gooey alginate to contend with! These records are then utilised to create your very own virtual 3D plan. This plan shows the exact virtual movement of your teeth over the duration of your orthodontic treatment and means that patients can see beforehand what their teeth will look like after treatment is complete. Most people tell us that this is the best part.

Once you’re happy, the 3D plan goes off to the lab, where they then fabricate your clear aligners. In fact, getting braces this way is quicker, easier, less messy and hassle-free.

Should you choose Invisalign or Clear Correct in Sydney over traditional braces?

While many adults and children still choose orthodontic treatment using metal or ceramic style braces it’s good to know that a revitalised smile doesn’t have to come from bracket and wire style braces. Instead, Clear Correct and Invisalign in Australia offers an aesthetic and barely visible alternative to conventional braces. Of course, being barely visible isn’t the only advantage:

No rubbing or irritation
Because unlike braces, clear plastic aligners don’t use metal in any way and utilise a smooth contoured designed there is little or no chance of rubbing or irritating the soft tissue of the lips, cheeks and/or tongue.

They’re removable
It’s understandable why many people feel relieved when the moment comes to finally take their braces off. After all, they’re worn 24/7 with no respite for the duration of the treatment. Clear Correct and Invisalign aligners, on the other hand, are designed to be easily removed, giving you control and flexibility – although for best braces before and after results it’s worth noting that they should be worn for a minimum of 20 hours a day.

A practical alternative to conventional braces
When wearing traditional style braces food particles can get lodged between the wires. This can be both uncomfortable and embarrassing. Invisalign aligners, or Clear Correct make eating a whole lot easier. Because they are designed to be removed when eating or drinking it makes it easier to keep both your aligners and your teeth clean.

That said, Invisible aligners aren’t for everyone and there may be other braces that are better suited to either need, budget or both.

How do Invisalign clear aligners and Clear Correct in Sydney work?

Unlike conventional fixed braces, removable aligners are designed to be changed every two or so weeks. However as each case is different, there may be exceptions to this rule. Depending upon the severity of your need, you may require anything from 10 up to 36 or more aligners. In addition, you may also need clear ‘button-like’ attachments which work as anchors to move some teeth, while others remain stationary.

While conventional ‘bracket and wire’ style braces will do a great job of moving teeth, it can be hard to notice any visible movement yourself until the braces are finally removed to reveal a straighter looking smile. With clear aligners, however, you should be able to tell pretty easily.

Why?

Because when the first aligner is worn over the teeth it’s likely to be snug at first and even hard to remove. Don’t worry because this is how each clear aligner is supposed to be. Gradually over a period of days, your teeth will gently drift into the aligner as they shift from movement point A to movement point B. When they do, your clear braces will become a better fit. This is when you know your teeth are starting to move.

After a couple of weeks or so, the aligner should have done its job and is exchanged for aligner number 2. This moves the teeth from point B to point C, and so on and so forth until the teeth are in their final position.

Which braces type is right for you?

While the severity of your orthodontic condition may dictate which braces type you have, Invisalign may be the right choice if you:

• Feel self-conscious about wearing traditional braces

• You want the flexibility to control when and where you wear braces

• You’re after a more subtle way to straighten your teeth
